From Backwaters to Beaches: Tushar’s Romantic Kerala Trip with Thrillophilia

Although I had personally never been to Kerala, I think it is the best destination in India. This destination has everything f- rom mountains to beaches, lush greenery and backwaters.

I mean, how often do you find everything in one place?

I wanted to go to Kerala on my honeymoon, but unfortunately, I couldn’t. After two years of my marriage, now my younger brother, Tushar, was getting married and I could not think of a better gift than a honeymoon trip to Kerala for the newly wed. Since I know all about his likes and dislikes, I was certain that he was going to love Kerala.

Another reason was that the couple had different preferences. My brother liked mountains and peace, whereas, my sister-in-law was crazy about the beaches. So when I saw these two unable to come to a conclusion about their honeymoon destination, I knew I had to step in and give them the best, a honeymoon trip to Kerala!

Reliving Every Moment!
All four of us- my wife, Tushar, sister-in-law and I, gathered in the room to hear about all the exciting stories of their Kerala trip. We came prepared with snacks and beverages so that we could listen to the stories without any interruptions!

Tushar: Dada, you have no idea how breathtakingly beautiful Kerala is! You would go crazy by looking at its mountains, beaches, tall trees and especially the backwaters.

Taking a sip of the coffee, I ask, “C’mon, now tell me what places you visited.”

Tushar: “So, we first visited Munnar. It was even more beautiful than the pictures. We had the perfect beginning to our trip- a long ride on the winding roads of Munnar, it was amazing Dada!”

Sister-in-law: “You know, even before reaching the hotel, we first got to visit the Cheeyappara Waterfalls. And, my goodness, it was huge and such a refreshing sight. I told Tushar that let's take a dip in it but apparently he was too shy to do that!”

Tushar: “Excuse me, I was not shy but practical! First of all, we had to complete our check-in on time. Secondly, it would have been very awkward reaching the hotel in dripping clothes.”

I added in support of my sister-in-law, “So, you were shy!”

Everyone laughed, except Tushar!

Tushar: “Okay, whatever! Then we finally reached our hotel and it was amazing. Our rooms were great and offered really pretty views of the hills. Actually, not just this, all the rooms throughout our trip were a good deal.

But, the next day! (sighs*) She took 2-3 hours to get ready and that too in the very last moment when the driver had already arrived. We even missed our complimentary breakfast because of this and had to spend extra money on buying breakfast from outside.”

Sister-in-law: “Now you are simply exaggerating! So, our first stop was Kolukkumalai Tea Estate. The best thing was, however far I was looking, I could only see greenery. It was very calm, scenic and even the locals were pretty welcoming too.

We even got to try many types of tea there. I never knew that there were so many varieties of tea and strangely, they all taste so different. We even got to see how it is actually processed. There were huge machines and the production was massive. Oh, and we took so many lovely pictures there because what else could be a better background than lush greenery and mountains.”

Tushar adds with a teasing tone: “ Yes, all she did was tour around the Tea Plantation in her pretty dress, pose for pictures and admire the scenery. Whereas, all I did was take her pictures and take care of her long dress from getting into the dirt!”

I interrupted and asked, “Okay, what else did you explore in Munnar?”

Sister-in-law: “Yes, we perfectly ended our day by enjoying a sunset at Mattupetty Lake and Dam. The best moment was when the reflection of the sun was clearly visible on the lake.”

Oh, and let me tell you about my favourite, Alleppey. Dada, believe me, Alleppey was entirely something else. We spent our entire day exploring the backwaters. We got to see so many local villages and even met a few locals. We even visited the beautiful Alappuzha Beach for a brief time. And after our tour, we spent the night in the same houseboat. We had our dinner on the boat, right under the moonlight, it was the most beautiful moment, if you ask me.”

Being extremely impressed with Alleppey, I asked, “So for how many days were you there in Alleppey?”

Tushar: “Just one dada! (with a sad tone) You know what I was thinking? Let’s plan again and just spend a good 3-4 days in Alleppey. And this time, we’ll all go together.”

Sister-in-law: “Yes, so the next day we had to visit Kovalam, and honestly, I was sad and excited at the same time! Sad for leaving a stunning place like Alleppey and excited to explore the gorgeous beach of Kovalam.”

I replied, “Yes, that day you would have been really excited, no? (pointing towards my sister-in-law)”

The entire room burst out with laughter.

Tushar: She tried so many water activities and there was no end to it. I mean, even I got tired after enjoying jet skiing and paragliding. One or two activities are fine after that people usually relax at the beach. But she, on the other hand, tried jet skiing, paragliding, parasailing and surfing.

After being in the water for hours, we finally went to the German Bakery. It was a very famous one that we got to know about while reading the Thrillophilia reviews. Not going to lie, but there, I tried one of the best milkshakes and pastries of my life.”

Sister-in-law: “And then, on our last day in Trivandrum, we only visited the Padmanabhaswamy Temple and spent a good two hours offering our prayers. It was the perfect end to our trip.”

Then I ask, “Wait, you guys talked so much about pictures and you haven’t even shown us one!”

Tushar: “Oh, yes! I forgot, Come here, I will show you all the pictures”

Looking at the empty packets, I replied, “Let me order some more snacks first!”
