Yash's Legendary German Adventure with His Crew: Thrillophilia Review
It all started with a pair of lederhosen, or should I say, the lack of them…
Akash, our designated planner of the group, was super confident that he had everything under control. Yet, as we stood at a small Bavarian shop in Munich, he was trying his best to bargain for a pair of traditional lederhosen to wear to Oktoberfest.
“Guys, I didn’t know they’d take the dress code this seriously!” he exclaimed, holding up what looked like a tiny pair of shorts. The group broke into laughter, ‘almost’ rolling on the floor, and then, Rohit added, “Akash, I think, you will be the one to redefine Bavarian fashion,” which made us laugh even more.
Even though we all were extremely excited for this trip, we had no idea at that moment it would turn out to be the most unforgettable memory of our life.
The Magic of German Cities
Our journey began in Berlin, a city buzzing with history, art, and nightlife. Our first stop had to be The East Side Gallery, renowned for being the world’s longest open-air gallery.
Strolling along this art gallery, which stretches along a preserved section of the Berlin Wall, was absolutely surreal. Each painting had its own story- some hopeful, some heartbreaking. “This one looks like modern art had a fight with history and won,” Priya joked, pointing at a colorful mural.
The historical sights in Berlin were equally captivating. Believe it or not, we were not really a bunch of history enthusiasts, however, the historical buildings of Berlin were something we could not miss.
From the Brandenburg Gate to the Holocaust Memorial, every spot carried a weight of history. “It’s strange,” I said aloud at one point, “how this city has been through so much but still feels so alive.” My friends nodded in agreement. We spent hours exploring Museum Island, diving into centuries of art and culture.
Berlin After Dark
Berlin's nightlife is legendary, and we were determined to experience it. We headed to a popular club recommended by our guide. “Guys, this place is known for its crazy vibes,” Akash informed us.
And crazy it was!
The music was electric, the vibe was insane and the crowd seemed to be from every corner of the globe. I remember dancing like no one was watching, except Rohan, who was trying to perfect his terrible moonwalk. “Rohan, are you dancing or trying to swipe the floor?” Priya teased. We laughed so much that night that my cheeks hurt the next morning.
Culinary Delights
One of the highlights of our trip was the food- German cuisine is hearty and flavorful (my mouth still waters every time I think of it). From bratwurst to schnitzel, every meal felt like a celebration. “If I eat one more pretzel, I might turn into one,” Priya declared, halfway through a gigantic pretzel, almost the size of her face.
Another thing that I am extremely grateful for is that Munich introduced us to the beauty of beer gardens. Sitting under massive chestnut trees, sipping freshly brewed beer, and chatting with locals was an experience I’ll never forget. One old Bavarian gentleman even taught us how to say “Prost” (cheers) the right way- “Make eye contact, or it’s bad luck!”
The Oktoberfest Experience
Oktoberfest was the highlight of the trip. Picture this- massive tents filled with music, laughter, and endless beer. Sounds amazing right…? Well, whatever you can imagine is only half of what actually was there!
The energy was infectious. Akash, in his newly acquired lederhosen, was a hit among the crowd. “I feel like a local,” he said, holding on to his lederhosen from one hand and raising his stein of beer from another.
The rides at the festival were a mix of thrill and terror. Rohan convinced us to try a rollercoaster, which ended with Priya swearing she’d never listen to him again. “Next time, you’re riding solo, buddy!” she declared, as we all cracked up.
The Bavarian Countryside
While Munich dazzled us with its charm, the Bavarian countryside stole our hearts. The lush green meadows, rolling hills, and quaint villages looked like something straight out of a storybook. One day, we rented bikes, simply rode along a scenic trail and went as far as we could. “This is so peaceful,” Priya said, taking in the view of a distant castle perched on a hill.
We stopped at a local café for coffee and cake. The owner, a sweet old lady, insisted we try her homemade apple strudel and it was divine. “This is what heaven must taste like,” Akash declared, and for once, we all agreed without teasing him.
Saying Goodbye
As the trip came to an end, I found myself reflecting on how incredible the past few days had been. Germany, with its blend of history, art, food, and fun, had been everything we’d hoped for and more.
One night, as we sat by the Spree River in Berlin, watching the city lights reflect on the water, Priya said, “You know, this trip was more than just sightseeing. It was about creating memories”... and she was right.
To anyone thinking of a trip to Germany, I’d say: DO IT!
