Celebrating Birthday, the ‘Greek’ Style: Karishma’s Greece Trip with Thrillophilia

Birthdays are special! And if it's the birthday of that significant other, then it becomes all the more special, isn’t it?

Karishma’s birthday was round the corner and she was NOT excited because now she is no longer a child and birthdays don’t excite her; adding up to all those factors is a huge burden at the office.

It was just 30 days to her birthday and now it was high time that they went for the visa interview. Her husband felt nervous as he dialled Karishma’s number.

-‘Karishma, please take a half day off at your office and come back home. I need to show you something.’

-‘Why? What do you wanna show me?’

-‘I don’t have time to explain it all over the phone. Please come home’

Karishma rushed to her home and while she rang the doorbell, her husband opened the door, dressed up in formals, to her surprise. Please get ready soon, we are leaving for the visa office in 10 minutes!

‘What? Why on earth will we go to the visa office? I came home in the middle of a meeting and you think all of this is a joke?’

‘Mamma Mia! It's not because guess what? We are going to Greece for your birthday and before the embassy denies us our visas, let's just go and get it done!’

Karishma couldn’t process what was going on and her husband handed over his ipad to her showing her the details of the trip that he had booked from Thrillophilia for the 5th of May to Greece.

She felt like screaming her heart out of joy and rather, got ready and sat in the car as they drove towards the visa office. After almost 20 days of endless waiting, they received their visas,

APPROVED!

Karishma couldn’t believe it- Greece, her dream destination, was finally happening, and that too, for her birthday! Her heart raced with excitement, but she had so much on her plate at work, and with her birthday around the corner, the idea of taking time off seemed impossible.

The next few days were a hell lot of preparations. Karishma’s husband had planned everything to perfection with Thrillophilia- flights, hotels, activities. Karishma, however, couldn't get over the fact that she was finally going to see Greece.

The Arrival

As the plane touched down in Athens, the warm Mediterranean breeze welcomed them. Stepping out of the airport, Karishma felt an overwhelming sense of excitement.

That evening, as they sat on the rooftop adjacent to their room, sipping on a glass of Greek wine and watching the sunset bathe the Acropolis in a golden hue, Karishma felt like she was living a dream.

“Happy early birthday, Karishma,” her husband said, raising his glass. “Here’s to the start of an unforgettable adventure.”

The next morning, they began their tour of Athens. The Acropolis was their first stop, and it was even more majestic in person than Karishma had imagined. Walking through the ruins of the Parthenon, Karishma felt as though she had stepped back in time.

“Imagine the history these stones have seen,” she said, running her hand over the weathered marble. “It’s like touching a piece of the past.”

They spent the rest of the day wandering through the Plaka district, and Karishma was in her element, buying trinkets and sampling Greek street food. Souvlaki and baklava quickly became her new favourite treats.

A Santorini Surprise

The next leg of their journey took them to Santorini, the island Karishma had always dreamt of visiting while watching her favourite movie, Mamma Mia! As the ferry approached the island, the sight of the white houses perched on the cliffs against the backdrop of the deep blue sea took her breath away.

“This is even more beautiful than the pictures,” she whispered, her eyes wide with wonder.

Her husband had booked a stay in one of the iconic cave houses, complete with a private balcony that overlooked the caldera. On the day of her birthday, they woke up early to watch the sunrise.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday,” she said. “This is ABSOLUTELY perfect.”

That evening, her husband had one more surprise planned. As they strolled through the charming streets of Oia, he led her to a secluded spot overlooking the sea, where a small table was set for two. The soft glow of candlelight and the sound of the waves crashing below created a magical atmosphere.

Karishma’s heart swelled with happiness. She couldn’t have imagined a more perfect celebration. They spent the night talking, laughing, and reminiscing about their journey so far, watching the twinkling lights of Oia in the distance.

An Adventure Like No Other

Next on their itinerary was Mykonos, known for its lively nightlife and postcard perfect beaches. Since they had spent their days in Santorini mostly relaxing, it was time for some adventure at Mykonos. They rented an ATV and spent the day exploring the island’s hidden beaches and charming villages.

“Let’s see if we can find our own private beach,” Karishma said, giggling as they rode through the winding roads.

They found a secluded spot where the water was crystal clear and the sand felt like velvet beneath their feet. This time, Karishma couldn’t just resist jumping into the sea!

As the sun began to set, they made their way to one of the island’s famous beach bars for a night of dancing and celebration. The energy of Mykonos was infectious, and Karishma felt alive in a way she hadn’t in years.

“I haven’t had this much fun in ages!” she shouted over the music, her face washed over with excitement.

A Bittersweet Goodbye

Before they knew it, their time in Greece was coming to an end.

As they boarded the plane back home, Karishma couldn’t stop smiling. It wasn’t just the breathtaking sights or the delicious food- it was the memories they had made, the laughter they had shared, and the love that had deepened between them.

“Greece will always hold a special place in my heart,” Karishma thought as the plane took off. “This wasn’t just a birthday celebration; it was the start of a new chapter in our lives.”
