Sumeet’s Switzerland Trip Through Mountains, Castles & Eiffel Tower with Thrillophilia

My wife and I had always talked about going to Switzerland. It was one of those dreams you keep putting off because life gets in the way. But we finally decided to go for it in October 2022.

We booked a trip to Switzerland and Paris through Thrillophilia. And honestly, it was one of the best decisions we ever made.

Starting Off in Zurich

As soon as we came out of the Zurich airport, it felt peaceful all around. Our driver was right there when we landed, and soon, he checked into our hotel. It was the first day, so we did not rush anything. We just took a moment to rest, grab a bite, and take in the fact that we had actually made it.

On the next day, we headed out to explore Zurich. The city was calm, welcoming, and effortlessly beautiful. Everyone we met there was kind, and every turn offered beautiful views.

We also took a 2-hour boat ride across Lake Zurich. It was a slow and relaxing 2-hour journey on the water. We passed tiny villages and beautiful houses by the water. My wife held my hand and said, “The beauty of this place is just magnificent.”

We stopped at a little town called Rapperswil. Someone had mentioned its old castle, so we decided to check it out, and it turned out to be one of the prettiest spots of the day. On our way back, we took the train and were amazed by how smooth and simple everything was.

In the evening, we had dinner at a cosy restaurant by the lake. “We finally made it,” I said. She smiled and replied, “Yes, and it is already worth it.”

Snowy Peaks and Storybook Cities

On the third day, we left Zurich to explore the Swiss countryside. It was the day we had been talking about for weeks. We are finally travelling to the Alps, the cable cars, and the fresh mountain air.

We arrived in the lovely mountain village of Grindelwald. From there, we took a cable car up into the Alps. As we climbed higher, my wife was staring out of the window like a kid. Soon, the snow-covered peaks appeared in front of us, and the bright green valleys below looked spectacular.

At the top, we crossed a narrow bridge called the “footbridge over the empty”. It hangs over a deep valley. My wife held my hand tightly. “Are you sure about this?” she asked with a nervous laugh. “We have come this far,” I said, and we took the first step together. It was scary and thrilling at the same time. We felt like standing on the edge of the world as we were surrounded by glaciers.

Lunch was served up there, with the Alps around us. Every bite felt special because of the view.

Later in the day, we visited Lucerne, and I can honestly say it is one of the prettiest cities we have ever seen. We were amazed to see the wooden Chapel Bridge, swans on the lake, and the cobbled streets. We took it slow, bought some souvenirs, and just enjoyed being there.

A Change of Scenery from Bern to Paris

The next morning, we went to Bern, the capital of Switzerland. It had an older and more traditional feel compared to Zurich. We walked through its old town and crossed a few bridges over the river. The whole place looked timeless with its beauty.

In the afternoon, we boarded a train to Paris. As we passed the clean lakes and green hills, I looked at my wife and said, “We are really doing this.” She smiled, and I could see the excitement in her eyes.

We reached Paris in the evening. We could feel the energy of the city, even from the cab window. And when we saw the glowing Eiffel Tower in the distance, we were delighted.

Palaces and Art in Paris

We visited the Palace of Versailles on our first day in Paris. The gold gates, giant mirrors, and gorgeous gardens were unbelievable. My wife could not stop admiring the paintings and little details in every room, while I was more surprised to know about the history these walls had seen.

In Montmartre, we took the funicular ride up the hill and saw the whole city from above. Then, we ate our lunch at a small cafe and just enjoyed the view.

We joined a walking tour in the afternoon and got to see some of the landmarks we had only read about. Seeing the Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, and the Seine River in person was a different experience.

The Dream Come True Experience at the Eiffel Tower

We started our last day of the trip with the gorgeous Eiffel Tower. As soon as we stood under it, we felt emotional. We had seen it in photos forever, but now we were right there.

We took the elevator up to the second level of the attraction, and as soon as we stepped out, the view was incredible. Paris was laid out beneath us, with rooftops, tree-lined streets, and little parks as far as we could see.

With this, our trip came to an end. We are highly grateful to the team at Thrillophilia for making it so special.
