Two Friends, One Unforgettable Journey: Samyami’s Meghalaya Trip Review with Thrillophilia
Two inseparable friends set out for Meghalaya’s embrace,
With laughter and dreams, they quickened their pace.
Misty hills whispered secrets, and waterfalls sang,
Each moment a treasure, their hearts danced and rang.
Through vibrant valleys, their friendship grew strong,
In nature's wonder, they found where they truly belonged…
In the heart of Northeast India, where the clouds kiss the hills, Samyami and her best friend set out on a journey that would be etched in their memories forever.
As both of them landed in Guwahati, they were warmly welcomed by the team of Thrillophilia. With excitement in her voice and a twinkle in her eye, Samyami exclaimed, “This is it! Let’s create stories that will celebrate our friendship, forever’!
Their driver greeted them with a warm smile. “Welcome to the journey of a lifetime!” he said, setting the tone for what lay ahead.
Samyami felt a surge of excitement. Little did she know that the real magic would unfold under the guidance of their amazing tour guides, Ankit and Riya.
Discovering Shillong
On their second day, it was time to explore the vibrant city of Shillong.
“The rain is like a warm hug here,” Riya remarked as they walked through the misty city, the aroma of street food wafting through the air. Samyami and her friend couldn't resist trying the local delicacies. “One plate of Pumaloi, please!” Samyami ordered, her eyes lighting up at the sight of the fragrant rice dish.
As they sat enjoying their meal, Riya shared tales about Shillong’s rich culture. “Did you know that this city is often called the ‘Scotland of India’? It’s because of the rolling hills and the love for music”.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, Ankit suggested they head to a viewpoint. “Trust me, you’ll want to see this,” he promised. Standing at the edge, the duo saw the sky painted in orange and golden hues, with the city stretching out in front of them.
Into the Heart of Meghalaya
The next day, they set off to Cherrapunji, renowned for its lush landscapes and relentless rainfall.
‘The hills were draped in a shroud of mist, and waterfalls rolled down the rocks like silver ribbons’. As they trekked through the verdant trails, Samyami felt as if she was walking in a dream.
It was now turn for the Living Root Bridges Trek. Their journey began with a steep descent of over 3,500 steps, but the energy of these two friends didn’t fade. With every step, the dense jungle seemed to come alive. Birds chirped, streams gurgled by, and every now and then, the sound of distant waterfalls broke the silence.
Ankit walked alongside, sharing interesting tidbits about the region. “Did you know the Khasi tribe has been using these living root bridges for over 500 years? They train the roots to grow strong and hold up the weight of hundreds of people.”
The trek was tough at moments, but they found strength in their friendship. “This place makes you realize how small we are in the grand empire of nature,” Samyami remarked, panting slightly as they paused to take in a view of a distant waterfall.
Ankit smiled and added, “As John Muir once said, ‘In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.’ You’ll find that here, without a doubt.”
After trekking for hours, the lush greenery suddenly opened up to reveal the living root bridge. The sight was nothing short of magical. Twisting, gnarled roots intertwined like the hands of time, forming a natural bridge over a flowing stream. It was hard to believe that something so beautiful could be crafted by nature and humans working together.
As they crossed the bridge Samyami shouted, “It’s like life- fragile in places but incredibly resilient where it counts.”
As they continued their journey, they encountered a local Khasi elder sitting by the trail. Intrigued, the two friends stopped to chat. The elder, speaking in his native tongue, shared the stories of his people and the significance of the living root bridges in their daily lives.
Ankit translated, “These bridges are not just paths. They are the lifelines of our villages, connecting us not just to each other but to the spirit of the forest.”
Samyami was deeply touched by the conversation. “I feel like these bridges are symbolic of how we should live- rooted deeply in our culture but flexible enough to adapt and grow.”
As they made their way back from the trek, fatigue began to set in, but their sense of accomplishment was overwhelming. “We actually did it,” her friend said, grinning ear to ear.
Samyami, drenched in sweat and a little out of breath, laughed. “I agree. It wasn’t easy, but the views, the history, and the experience were worth every single step.”
Beautiful Dawki
On the fourth day, their adventure continued as they traveled to Dawki, known to be one of the cleanest rivers of the world. “This place is often called the ‘heaven on earth,” Ankit proclaimed as they reached the riverbank.
As they glided through the water, they stopped to chat with a local fisherman, who shared stories of the river’s bounty. “Every drop of water here is filled with life,” he said, his face weathered yet kind.
Samyami felt grateful for the interactions that brought their journey to life. “It’s moments like these that make travel so enriching,” she thought.
The Journey, The Lesson, The Bonds…
On their final day at Shillong, Samyami couldn’t help but feel grateful for the wonderful guides who made every step of the journey memorable.
“It’s the people we meet and the stories we share that make travel truly special.”
With hearts full of memories and a promise to return, Samyami and her friend departed from Guwahati, carrying with them the essence of Meghalaya- a land where the roots of the past find their way to the beauty of the present.
“In three words, I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life on this trip: IT GOES ON. And so does the journey of exploration, friendship, and discovery, beckoning to be continued”, sighed Samyami, utterly filled with gratitude.
