Saksham’s Filmy Honeymoon Trip with Thrillophilia- The Bollywood Style!

The tunes of "Na tum jaano na hum…” played in the background, and Hrittick Roshan seemed to stand with an orange muffler around his neck, waiting for his heroine - Ameesha Patel. The background of Mount Titlis shrouded in snow brought the scene back to life.

The only difference was, that it was not Hrithik Roshan, it was me waiting for my wife at the cable car station to board the ropeway and reach the top of this iconic peak.

Cut!
Back to reality.

That was quite a scene, perhaps a better and more realistic one than Bollywood, but based on our honeymoon!

Oh, let me tell you what is going on here. We went on a trip to Switzerland for our honeymoon, and we could not help but reimagine ourselves as the actors in a Bollywood movie, travelling through our dream destination. Our motive was to find the best chocolates, to love and to live all the cinematic moments as shown in so many movies that we watched while growing up.

Honestly, that is exactly where my idea of romance, ‘dream destinations’, and the urge to have a ‘cinematic honeymoon’ rose from. The movies of course, with Hrithik, Shah Rukh, Salman, and Amir leading our fantasies. Not to forget about Preeti Zinta, Diya Mirza, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra though!

Anyway, there we were, living just what we wanted to live as kids, posing for pictures on the cable ride of Mount Titlis with the love of my life, my wife!

The On-Screen Scenes
To talk of the scenes, the topmost one that I can think of at this moment is surely the time we went for the Grindelwald cable car ride. Although I am not a big fan of Harry Potter, my wife was, and seeing this peak made her jump with joy! Nothing about the mountain excited her, it was just the name that gave her the shivers.

In reality, it was a majestic peak, standing tall in white, casting a glow of beauty throughout the expanse around it! Even a tiny cup of coffee at that height felt heavenly in our mouths. But,

Picture abhi baaki thi…

The next part of the journey needed us to walk along a winding path that led us to a suspended bridge, below which,

There were glaciers all around!

It was as scary as it was mesmerising. It would have made for a perfect James Bond scene, this location, but we both were happy with Bollywood and chose not to walk on the bridge.

Next up, we went to Lucerne, whose mediaeval charm almost swept the present from beneath our feet, landing us up in the sets of Bachna Ae Haseeno! We felt like flocking around just like Ranbir Kapoor and Minissha Lamba through the town, but we knew better!

Instead, we went for a nice food tour around the place, topping it up with a chocolate-tasting spree! But our guide suggested otherwise, saying that we could take an entire day in Zurich for food touring, but there are more important attractions in Lucerne that can bring out the true charm of Switzerland, like a short sightseeing session followed by a chocolate tour!

Impressed, we took his suggestion and went to the Chapel Bridge first. Truly, after such a long day touring Mount Grindelwald and Mount Titlis, this was a much-needed respite. No, we did not feel like role-playing as movie characters at that moment, we just felt like holding hands and walking on the bridge like an ordinary couple in love.

Then, we headed to all the factories for sampling, only to find ourselves coming out of each of them a handful of toffees and bars. We had not realised that our inner Charlie (from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, you must remember him) had come out seeing all those chocolate fountains and sculptures! We could not be happier, and our teeth could not be more chocolatier. By the time we reached our hotel in Zurich, two out of the five bags of chocolates were finished.

Don't judge us, you would have done the same if you were in our place!

ZURICH ZURICH ZURICH!
Food tour, food tour, food tour.

This was perhaps one day when we had enough time to relax with each other and explore the cuisine. So we headed out for a street food spree, starting with Cheese Fondue, Rosti, and Raclette. In between we stopped for some Swiss icecreams, spending time admiring the age-old streets and buildings of the city.

Finally, we went to a nice cafe for dinner, and tried Wiediker- the cult sausage, Geschnetzeltes, and then wrapped our gastronomic adventure with a full platter of Luxemburgerli.

That was all we did that day. Eat and sleep.

Behind The Scenes!
We reached the UNESCO Heritage Site of the Old Town of Bern from Zurich, visited the Bern Cathedral, took a stroll around the Aare River, and then the famous Bear Pit!

Because of the high fever, I was taking it slow, thinking less of recreating the Bollywood scenes and focusing more on getting better fast so that we could get back to it. Anyway, the trip had almost come to an end so only the conclusion of the movie was left.

We were just on the train to head back for our departure to India, and the scenery passing by kind of reminded me of the scenes of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge- serene, picturesque, and too beautiful to be here on earth.

No doubt – Switzerland is often regarded to be as stunning as paradise!

I did not realise that I was thinking all these things out loud. Then I looked at her, and I saw that she had been hearing me patiently. After I had finished, she could not help but laugh,

I, on the other end, could not help but smile gleefully and sheepishly.

I loved this honeymoon trip, it was exactly like the one I had imagined!

Perhaps even better than any Bollywood movie.
