The Unsung Saga of Love- Divya’s Anniversary Trip to Seychelles

The Unsung Saga of Love- Divya’s Anniversary Trip to Seychelles

“O my Luve is like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June;
O my Luve is like the melody
That’s sweetly played in tune.”

I was going through the poems of Robert Burns on the flight, with my husband sound asleep in the dark corner seat, just beside me.

I felt a rush of happiness and sorrow at the same time, that sparked thoughts of the possible future.

Our future.

This was our second-anniversary trip, and all that we had shared in these two years seemed to come back to me in bits and pieces. It has been a roller coaster ride, and surely a pleasure too.

Shoving all these thoughts aside, I finally resorted to my book, focusing on just the present.

The next morning, I opened my eyes to my husband quietly stroking my hair. I saw the poetry book in front of me and opened it to check if I could find the last page I left off…and I found a rose lying inside.

My husband leaned in, saying, “Welcome to Seychelles, my love.”

The coincidence seemed to reverberate in my nerves.

The Pristine Praslin

The salty air of Seychelles seemed to wash over us, rejuvenating us and filling us up with the possibility of a great vacation lying ahead. I knew in my bones that this was going to be an extraordinary trip.

Thanks to Thrillophilia, we had our transfers and stays sorted. The driver was already waiting for us, and upon reaching the hotel we were welcomed with coconut water drinks and garlands of orchids. But the best part was yet to come…

After going over all the procedures for checking in, we were finally escorted to our room. The attendant showed us to a room, opened the door and stepped aside for us to enter.

But our jaws dropped right there.

There was a huge window overlooking a garden and the sea, the wind came in in gusts and ruffled the curtains like a jazz dancer. The bed was covered with rose petals, with two swans made of towels kept neatly in the middle. I stepped inside, and went to the washroom- BATHTUBS!

I was happy beyond imagination, and so was my husband. None of us had expected the stay to turn out to be so beautiful!

That evening we headed out to the Anse Lazio Beach on our own to catch the sunset, although I wished to lie on the bed and enjoy sipping on some champagne. We were all decked up in our best of attires and did not fail to click some amazing pictures to capture the moment.

The place looked surreal, and adding to our luck was the fact that there were not too many people around. We could enjoy a nice and secluded time on the beach, strolling, laughing, talking, and sharing some magical moments.

The next day we were taken to the famous La Digue island, and you will not believe me when I say this, but to the best of my knowledge, the water there was the most serene shade of blue. I had never witnessed such an amazing hue, flanked by hills and cliffs quilted with tropical vegetation.

Seychelles was turning out to be a paradisiacal venture, and thanks to me, much of it was a surprise for my husband which made his adrenaline shoot up like mercury on Mars.

THE Day

I woke up early, ready to surprise my husband with breakfast in bed, a bouquet of lilies (his favourite), and a plan to spend the day on a private island.

He could not believe his own eyes when he saw all the arrangements, and on top of it, he had no clue where I was taking him as a part of the surprise.

But the visit to Round Island left me equally astounded. There were just 10 infinity pool villas on the entire island and the top-notch privacy of the place impressed me to the core. We were discussing that we could literally spend months there while touring the premises…and that was when we saw that there were open showers attached to the villa.

I could not believe my own eyes.

And the view. My God the view.

The open sky above and the endless sea views ahead enhanced the romance, and we felt more in love than we ever did!

We swam in the infinity pool there, spent time sipping on coconut water and swinging on the hammocks under a mangrove tree on the beachside, and then we had our lunch right at that spot. The champagne was on the house, so we ordered a nice 5-course meal to celebrate our second anniversary.

I had gone inside the villa to get my hat one time, and when I came out, I could not find him anywhere. Then I looked up and saw him standing at the top of the very tree under which we were having lunch.

So much to sustain the heart of a kid.

I loved it.

Mahiya in Mahe

The European charm of the place seemed to rattle our perception of Seychelles. The streets of Victoria in Mahe were colourful and vibrant, with lots of shops selling local handicrafts, jewellery and clothes.

We loved the ferry rides to explore the different beaches of the place and even shopped for a lot of souvenirs to take back home.

We also visited the  Seychelles National Botanical Gardens where we encountered a huge and very aged turtle. We also went for a short hike on the Copolia Trail on the last day of our trip. After reaching the top, I could not control my excitement and did something that I wanted to do forever…

“I Love You”

I screamed at the top of my voice. And then I kneeled down and expressed my feelings to him. Not that he was hearing them for the first time, but I felt so overwhelmed that I could not keep them within me any longer.

We both deserved this trip. And it was well worth-it!
